[Source: front page of today's The Oregonian (Portland, Oregon) September 10, 2003 Examples of post-9/11 changes at Army chemical agent depot Before 9/11, there were typically about ten national guardsmen providing security at the US Army's Umatilla Chemical Depot, located near Hermiston, Oregon. Now there's nearly 200. The depot stores 220,604 munitions and containers filled with 7.4 million pounds of deadly nerve and mustard agents scheduled for incineration beginning perhaps as early as this year. Public tours have been halted and traffic barriers have been installed at the depot's main gate. Security measures are not likely to be relaxed until the weapons are destroyed.
