Iowa ammo plant workers - radiation/beryllium screening/education

Former Iowa Army Ammunition Plant workers are being offered free health screenings and classroom sessions on health effects of radiation and beryllium exposure. The classes, to be held Oct. 23 and Nov. 13, are offered by the University of Iowa. A UI research project, called the Atomic Energy Commission Plant - Former Worker Program, is headed by Dr. Laurence Fuortes, a professor of occupational and environmental health.
