* [2006-05-05] Enel to decide on Mochovce completion by next summer A FEASIBILITY study on completing the Mochovce nuclear power plant should be ready in April 2007. October 17, 2005 Slovak - Mochovce 3 and 4 finance commitment in Enel takeover bid Enel, the Italian power utility, has pledged to invest EU1.9-billion ($2.3-billion) in Slovenske Elektrarne to fulfil the Slovak government's conditions for completing the EU840-million acquisition of the country's dominant electricity generator. Fulvio Conti, Enel's chief executive, told reporter that the company had made a "firm commitment" to complete the third and fourth blocks of the Mochovce nuclear power station, which will make up about EU1.6-billion of the investment. Plans for Mochovce will be controversial in neighbouring nuclear-free Austria, although Mr Conti said he did not expect strong opposition. Before the acquisition of the 66 per cent stake is completed towards the end of this year, the government must carve out those parts of Slovenske Elektrarne that are not being acquired - such as the VI block of the Jaslovske Bohunice nuclear plant - and pass a law on funding the decommissioning of nuclear power stations. The current decommissioning fund has an estimated shortfall of Sk15-billion ($479-million) and the government is proposing to impose a tariff on final consumers to top it up. Friends of the Earth, the environmental pressure group, has appealed to the European Commission over the government's plan. Mr Conti said he did not expect it would be an obstacle. He is pursuing a national energy policy to generate enough to meet domestic needs and provide export sales. Privatization of power plants and the grid is expected to be a part of this policy.
