LaSalle County is also best site in state for wind energy, sez Invenergy

The windiest area in Illinois is in LaSalle County, according to a wind power company representative. Due to the county's high elevation, wind traveling uphill is compressed "and that makes for more wind energy", he said. "We've found that so far, this is the best area in Illinois to host a wind farm." He also noted that being located so close to Exelon's nuclear plant, there's a possibility that a wind farm here could tie into the any of Exelon's five energy transmission lines.

LaSalle license exam: Six, maybe seven, new SROs

In November 2006, eight SRO license applicants took license exam consisting of written and operating tests at LaSalle. One of the applicants failed the exam. Seven applicants passed all sections of the exam. Six of them have been issued senior operator licenses. In accordance with NRC policy, the license for one applicant who passed the exam with a score less than 82% was withheld pending the outcome of any written examination appeal that may be initiated. If the grade is still equal to or greater than 80% after any appeal resolution, this applicant will also be issued an operating license. NRC's exam report, dated January 29, 2007, includes detailed discussion of some of the exam questions, and is available as ADAMS ACN ML070320596.
