Ft Calhoun - planned overhaul amongst OPPD expenses prompting belt-tightening

OPPD's Board approved an operating budget about 3% less than last year's, despite an average 3.1% rate increase. To prepare for the costly years ahead, OPPD this year is establishing a debt retirement account, said Chuck Eldred, chief financial officer. Up to $35 million will be set aside in the account this year.

Ft. Calhoun license renewal SER presented to ACRS

NRC staff presented the results of its evaluation of the Fort Calhoun Unit 1 license renewal application to the Advisory Committee for Reactor Safeguards (ACRS). The staff issued the final safety evaluation report (SER) for Ft. Calhoun on September 5, 2003. The staff presented an overview of the SER, the resolution of formerly open items, and the findings of the associated onsite audit and inspections. The ACRS members commented that the license renewal application and the staffÕs SERs were of good quality. If approved, the staff plans to issue the renewed license for Ft. Calhoun by November 21, 2003.
