SOUTH TEXAS PROJECT - THE TINY COOLANT LEAK WAS SEEPAGE FROM CRACKS IN INSTRUMENT TUBES

Michael Davis (Houston Chronicle), "Source of leak discovered at nuclear plant", Houston Chronicle, May 22, 2003 11:15PM

The cause of a leak that led to the shutdown of a reactor at the South Texas Nuclear Project has been found, a key step to get the unit [unit 1] back in service, perhaps by late summer. ... Plant officials said they are confident they have found the cause of the leaks. ... Ultrasonic testing showed small cracks in two instrumentation tubes inside the reactor vessel that had exhibited the seepage. The inspection is expected to be completed this weekend.

No other cracks have been found on any of the other instrumentation tubes.
